A brief discussion on the original of Eeyore's personality appeared on alt.fan.pooh newsgroup, and someone related him to an Admiral Milne. "... Best of all, Admiral Milne was, according to the shopkeeper, apparently the inspiration for Eeyore -- grumpy wit and grumbly depressions being traits both man and donkey displayed shamelessly."
"I am not grumpy and grumbly," grumbled Eeyore to Piglet and Pooh and anyone else who would listen. "I just observe others and make my opinions known. Sometimes the opinions are happy ones and sometimes they are not-so-happy ones. But I'm not grumpy and grumbly."
"Yes, you are," said Rabbit, "and you know very well that you are."
"I think Eeyore is a very nice person," squealed Piglet, who thought Eeyore was a very nice friend indeed, and never minded his occasionaly grump.
"There, you see," grumbled Eeyore. "I'm really a not-very-grumbly person after all. Remember that. Nice to a fault Eeyore, that's my motto." Eeyore sat down on yet another Thistle, grumbled about it, and turned around to brish it off once again and munch away.
