If They Park Nearby,
Shouldn't They be Visiting You?

Scenario: You have a restaurant, a retail store, or a sports establishment (miniature golf course, bowling alley, etc.) and cars park in or near your parking lot. You could inexpensively print an advertising flyer and place it on their windshields. People (myself) hate these things because it's (a) an intrustion on the car and (b) where do you throw the paper after you're read it ... on the ground or in your car? Here's the twist that makes the ad method worth pursuing and received better ... offer something substantial and worthwhile on the windshield ... a puzzle or a FREE pass for something without any strings attached.

Giveaway ideas: a small bag of popcorn, some coffee or a free soda. Your objective is to bring these people into your establishment and to get them thinking positively about you, without costing you an arm and a leg. You should avoid a cents off coupon or a Buy 1 Get 1 Free offer. These force your potential customer to calculate how much money they'll have to spend after they enter your door. You want them to walk through your door first. Knowing they can get something absolutely free and then walk out will bring some people in for the free stuff only. But more often than not, they'll buy something else, or at least they'll remember your free giveaway and think of you when they're ready to make a future purchase.
